God Calls Us His Way

When God calls us, He calls us His Way.

When we commit to being obedient to God, we learn that it isn’t about us anymore. It’s about Him. That’s as real as it gets.

When we do obey, when we listen to Him and do His Will, His way, He rewards us with His bountiful gifts that only He can give.

Like this calling to help the homeless. It’s truly the biggest blessing that He could give. Speaking from experience.

One night, Darius cried as he asked for prayer. He said, “It’s getting worse and worse out here every day.” He asked Jesus for a hedge of protection around him and worried that his addiction was about to be the end of him.

We prayed, and when we saw him a few nights later, he was composed and serious but calm. He had signed up for the opiate addiction program at Meharry Medical College. He was thinking about how his friends would look at him in his weakened state, and he just wanted to make it until he was admitted.

When the clinic was temporarily cleared out because someone had come down with Covid, he popped out of the stairwell he used to sleep in and said, “Hey! Aren’t you going to say, ‘Hi!’ to me?”

He looked completely different—happy, healthy. He had gained back significant weight and had biceps again, with no scabs on his arms. He told me over and over again how great the program was and how much he loved all of the staff there.

He had only a few days to wait to be admitted again, with the health department all-clear.

Give.

God is calling us to do more. Still. Until we have done everything He has told us to do.

Once we commit to Him, it isn’t about us anymore. It’s about Him.

What a generous gift He gives. Forever.

“To him who overcomes, I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”
